Second Attempt Crossing
PROJECT OVERVIEWThis slideshow is a visual exploration of the poem “Second Attempt Crossing” by Javier Zamora, paired with scanned and distorted imagery from the book “The Land of Open Graves: Living and Dying on the Migrant Trail” by Jason De Leon. The poem provides an intimate, first-hand account of one individual’s experience crossing the border, while the work of anthropologist Jason De Leon take a more scientific, research-based approach. Paired together, the words and imagery become a striking portait of the migrant experience and what it can be like to navigate through harsh desert landscapes.
In 2019, the show was projected nightly on a wall facing the main street in Marfa, Texas.
