Rebrand the humanitarian organization No More Deaths/No Más Muertes to act as an accessible and compelling platform for migrant stories, intended to stimulate the awareness and empathy necessary to call our community to action.
HISTORICAL OVERVIEW
In 1994, the U.S. Border Patrol enacted a policy called ‘Prevention through Deterrence’, which was intended to direct migrants away from populated areas, rather encouraging them to cross in remote areas of the desert. Under the guise of ‘deterrence’, the policy actually intentionally funneled migrants through extremely hostile and inhospitable conditions that would likely end in death. As a result, the number of migrant deaths in the desert has risen significantly over the past 25 years. Because of the conditions, many bodies are never recovered and the actual number of deaths cannot be known.
